Share Your World: 5/20/19

I know. I know. I said I was going to take a break from blogging this weekend and here I am again, breaking that plan for the second time in a row. I guess it’s because it  has been a good weekend, that I continue to break my break.

I just came across a Share Your World Post from Sparks from a Combustible Mind,  whose prompting questions got me wondering ….. and answering in my head.  So, here goes. I figured I might as well share my answers with you!

1. Is it better to suspect something (bad or hurtful) and not know or to have your worst fears confirmed by sure knowledge? 

I definitely would rather know. I have a sixth sense and knowing would only confirm what I was suspecting. I would rather have that confirmation (even if it is bad) than to go on deluding myself.  Moving on is easier when you know the truth.

2.  What makes you laugh aloud?   Crack up?   Laugh until your sides split?   When was the last time you had a great big belly laugh?

Kids make me laugh aloud. Their answers to questions, their spelling of words, their unfaltering honesty, and naivety always, always make me laugh. Sadly, I cannot remember the last time I had a good belly laugh. Thanks for the reminder that this means I am taking life too seriously.

3. Do you suppose Noah had woodpeckers in the ark?  If he did, where did he keep them?   Apologies to the Darwinians in the crowd…this is merely for fun, okay?.

I would suspect that Noah had woodpeckers in the ark, if they had evolved by then. I am a huge believer in evolution, so I am answering what I think would have occurred if there had been an ark and had woodpecker’s existed.  The woodpeckers would not have been “kept” anywhere – allowed to roam and peck until their hearts’ content. Afterall, if we have an ark that survives a world wide, earth-life destroying flood, why could we not have woodpeckers on a wooden ark?  The logic makes sense to me, even if it does not to anyone else!

4. Why is “Charlie” short for “Charles when they are the same number of letters?

Well, since I have had two Charles in my life, a grandfather and a son, I suspect that Charlie is short for Charles because it is less formal, not because it has any less letters. When my eldest son was born, we named him after both of his maternal grandfathers. with Charles being his given, first name. We thought we would call him CJ which also stands for my first and middle name, as well as the first names of his two grandfathers. But, after one look at him, we knew he was a Charlie, not a CJ, not a Chuckles (which in my great dismay was a name my father in law tried to affix to our child), and not a Charles when he was little.

The one nice thing about the name Charles is that it can grow and change with the child. Charlie when little becomes Charles when older and accomplished, if desired. Our Charlie is Charlie, forever and ever, even if he desires to use Charles as he ages.

A good name for great men.

5. What  happened in your world this past week that made you feel thankful, joyful or grateful?

This past week, I realized I have some great friends, both new and old, that support me in whatever I choose to do.  This made me grateful. Joyfulness was brought on, once again by working in the garden with students. Their enthusiasm and excitement about planting, and seeing a baby painted turtle, as well as their hopeful comments about peace (we planted a peace garden), also gave me reason to think their is hope for our future world.
