My heart is heavy today,
but I cannot tell you why.
I took a drive to soothe my soul
but it did not make me fly.
The parking lots are empty
it is such an odd sight to see.
I just wish things were normal
for that is how I want it to be.
Everything seems odd, despite the sun is out.
Warm rays and spring bulbs should make me cheerful, yet
I turn around and hide my frown from all those who are about.
It seems like it should be a rainy day and wet.
For that is how my heart feels,
heavy and sodden with tears.
There is so much to be grateful for,
we must get past our fears.
Fears for the future,
that it will not be what we thought.
Fears for unsung accomplishments
and work that’s been all for naught.
Deep down I know it will be okay.
Resilience, with luck we all have.
Adapting to a new reality,
when done, will be our salve.
My heart feels lighter now,
writing does that for me.
I hope you can find some relief
when you feel similarly.

I’m with you, too! It’s strange to be sad about it, but I am noticing the utter quiet from no traffic. Glad your writing helped!

The weather is beautiful, but a bit chilly, here in north Alabama. As you said so well, though, it does seem like it should be wet with a steady rain falling. Thanks for sharing this. We will be okay, but it’s going to take a while to figure out what that means.

Thanks, Tim. Yes, I know we’ll all be okay but it will be different – of that I am sure. Enjoy the nice weather – we are just starting to get some warmer days, now!

I know… I have had tears quite often. It isn’t right to hide them, but it seems to hard to share them. Thank you for your courage and honesty. In my more manageable moments I think we will level out soon enough, but it does seem like a L-o-n-g R-u-n.

I totally agree with what you wrote – it is very hard to share but not quite right to hide them. I really appreciate knowing there are others who share some sadness. It will all be okay – just different.

Oh….yes. “Fears for unsung accomplishments
and work that’s been all for naught.” That is what has hit me the most. People who have worked so hard for things to happen or to build events, careers, etc., and they all have dissolved so quickly.
