There is no way to disguise my excitement today! I had a book birthday yesterday! My second publication as an indie author and publisher was released!

Yesterday was a roller-coaster of a day. You know the type, up and down and then up again, until you finally rest at a good spot after an incredible ride.

The anthology of ekphrastic poetry that I’ve been working on since last August is finished!

It is for sale on Amazon! I published the book through Kindle Direct Press, and if you search by title or author’s name, it will take you to the page. I’ll provide a link at the bottom of this post as well.

Why was yesterday a roller-coaster of a day?

Hang on and I’ll tell you.

But first my Indie-Publishing Tip #7: Stay on to finish the ride.

When working on a publication of this magnitude, one must persevere. Tenacity is needed. You should expect to encounter some difficulty because what you are doing (self-publishing) is not an easy task. It is time-consuming and laborious.

But, I promise you it will be satisfying, in the end, if you stick to it.

This is what I’m feeling today: satisfaction.

Other feelings include pride and a sense of accomplishment.

I also have a strong sense of community today. I’m getting messages from some of the included authors regarding their excitement about the anthology being done and released. My family members and close friends are excited for me. I’m answering interview questions from one of the poet-photographers regarding the creation of the book and the process of indie publication.

The Ride

For a while, I’ve viewed the book, Picture Picture Poetry: An Anthology of Ekphrastic Nature Poetry for Students, as a community project.

Community because it was born from those who work with children, write poetry for children, love nature, and enjoy photography.

It’s a community to which I feel I belong and have accepted me for who I am, what thoughts I share, and the pictures I take.

It’s a community with whom I often go on rides of the imagination, each Friday, as we share our creations of words, painting pictures in the minds of our readers.
