It’s been a wild April. Obviously, I have fallen short of posting publishing tips every day for National Poetry Month. But, I am giving myself some grace, knowing that I have done something worthwhile every day this month.
Tip #11: Make Every Day Count
April 1-9: Visiting our family in New York State
April 7th: Published Picture Perfect Poetry: An Anthology of Ekphrastic Nature Poetry for Students
April 13th: Tutored a Foreign ESL student
April 13th: Took a 4.5-mile walk in the woods
April 15th: Took a 2.5-mile walk in the woods. Received furniture that had been on order.
April 16th: Delivered 100 pieces of handmade jewelry to Iowa, visited our eldest son, and picked up our cat.
April 16th: Completed upload to Ingram Spark for Picture Perfect Poetry.
April 17th – Met friends for breakfast, got some items out of storage, and drove home (3 hours).
Tomorrow: Make it count.
No, I haven’t posted every day in April but I have made every day count. Last month we lost an old friend. He was 64 and died from a brain tumor. In truth, we hadn’t been close to him in years. But we saw him in the fall of 2022 at his son’s wedding – a wedding we traveled 900 miles to attend.
From the time of his diagnosis until his death was a little over 10 months. Sadly, he is gone.
But his death was a sober reminder to make every day count. Do what your heart desires. Travel to the places you want to see. Tell the people you care about that you’re happy to have them be a part of your life.
Love deeply. Live Fully. Be Kind Not Cruel. And Be Your Authentic Self.
All those things were considerations of mine when I chose to curate and publish a poetry anthology. I gave part of myself to it because I wanted to. And now, I have.
