Poetry Friday: Glorious Weather

We have been enjoying some great weather this past week. With that gift has come the ability to get out in the yard. While I was cleaning up the new native garden bed by the road, I found this maple seedling pushing its way out of the seed coat. I couldn’t help but write a little poem about it.

I also noticed the leaves on the trees starting to burst open and wrote about that earlier this week. It’s a great time of year to take in all the changes going on in the natural world right now.

With spring weather, we can appreciate some glorious sunsets over the lake. Here are some shots from Tuesday night, along with a video clip in which you can hear the frogs.

Frogs were great fodder for my writer’s circle students years ago. My OLW for this year is serenity. The lake, with its soothing sights and sounds, gives me that.

We’ve also been taking walks the woods too. My husband always goes with the dog but I’ve been trying to join him after lunch. I find the woods very soothing as well. It looks like the crows are stealing turkey eggs and we’re finding them broken all over the trail.

I’ve yet to find any fungi yet but I’ll keep looking.

We lost a huge hemlock tree in a late winter storm, and had an arborist we know come to cut it into logs. Hemlock is a species of tree the varnished reshi grow on. I’m going to keep a lookout for that and more Bear’s Head Tooth.

Lastly, while I rarely write political posts, I did this week on Medium. Here is the friend link:

  1. Beautifully serene shots of the lake, Carol! And I get a kick out of seeing the rooting maple seed. I’ve never gotten a good look at one before 🙂

What Trump is doing to our government is dire. Bizarre how he is trying to make us not be a superpower any more, and the Republicans aren’t stopping him. They care a lot less than I thought they did.

  2. Those lake shots are gorgeous! I love the dock chairs. I would definitely be inspired by that bursting maple seed too. Thank goodness it’s rooting for our world. We need it!

  3. Beautiful moments by the lake, Carol! I could fall asleep to the sound of the frogs. 🙂

It’s getting harder to even know what to say about this so-called president. He is beyond belief in his destructiveness.

    1. Thanks for letting me know. It’s something I cannot seem to check. When I click on it, it says I am reading my own article from a friend link. So I assume since it’s a friend link that’s what everyone can read. I guess not. I’ll have to try another way. You can read it if I send you the friend link to your email. You can let me know at labcar81@gmail.com

  4. Hi Carol! Like other people, I wasn’t able to read the whole article… but if there’s another way to access it, please let me know! I’d love to read more of your words. The cuts Trump is proposing are terrifying indeed. Thank you for sharing your healing moments of joy and solace in nature. That spot by the lake looks like a bit of paradise!

  5. I love the hope in the maple seed haiku and the gorgeous sunsets! Thanks for shining a light on the dire situation. It’s hard but critical to pay attention.

  6. What an incredible place to experience nature and her glory. A balm for the weary soul. As a librarian, I watched in dismay as the president fired an incredibly capable, qualified chief librarian of congress (who was also a woman of colour) only to appoint a white male lawyer as her replacement. A man who’s only qualification is that he’s friends with the president. It shouldn’t be possible. I don’t understand how any of this is possible. How can one man have this much power?? Wasn’t that the whole point of the revolutionary war, to never be under the rule of a king again? The mind boggles.
