Poetry Month: Indie Publishing Tips Day #2

Happy Poetry Month, Day #2. For Poetry Month this year, I am writing a tip a day on my experience with being an Indie Author and Publisher.

I received the second proof copy of my upcoming book release: Picture Perfect Poetry, An Anthology of Ekphrastic Nature Poetry for Students. It looks great and should be good after a brief instant message to Kindle Direct Press (KDP) regarding my ISBN UPC/BarCode and a trim issue on the proof.

I am still on target to have the book’s birthday this week!

How exciting is that?!

My tip for today, day #2, is this: Take Your time.

We all know the creative process of writing and editing is time-consuming enough, but add to it the process of selection of work to be included, layout of the book, and navigating the platforms for creation such as Canva, KDP, and IngramSpark, it can take an inordinate amount of time.

I’m not begrudging the time spent; I loved every minute. Well, maybe not EVERY minute, as there were a few days of frustration here and there, but most of the time I spent on the book from last August to now I enjoyed.

Here’s the kicker though, I had the time. My husband and I are retired. He’s been working on building a garage/woodshop for us at our lake property. I write on Medium.com daily, occasionally on this blog, sew and, make jewelry. But, for the last six months, most of my creative time was spent on the anthology that will be released in a few days.

Time is precious. It flies. Use it for doing something you love. Then, you won’t have any worries about the amount of it you spend!
