Welcome to the Poetry Friday Community! All are welcome here. This week’s host is Matt Forrest Esenwine, children’s author extraordinaire! He has the round-up at his blog Radio, Rhythm, and Rhyme. Please join us at his page for more poetry goodness.
For Poetry Month, I’ve been writing a poem a day based on the Verse of Ages Poetry Month Prompts shared by Jone Rush MacCullogh.
I’ve been sharing these quick write poems on this blog every day. It’s something I’ve wanted to do – ramp up my readership on The Apples in My Orchard (this blog). Now, it seems to be the time.
Here we go:
Day 1 – chase

Day 2 – bob

Day 3 – delight

Day 4 – jam

What am I trying to accomplish this for National Poetry Month 2025?
1) Ramp up readership on this blog
2) Practice the craft of poetry
3) Experiment with words and word choice
4) Write to the prompts provided by the source mentioned earlier
5) Read poems new to me
6) Uplift myself and others joyfully and use nature whenever possible.
7) Use my own photographs whenever possible to add context to my poems. (2/2, so far)
What are the poems new to me?
Two days ago, I found a posting of all the AP Literature Essay Test Questions on Poetry. I find it a quick way for me to reference some well-known poems and think about what the prompts are asking the students. Many of the poems are pieces of writing I have not read. Therefore, I’m stretching my poetry knowledge base as well.
Finally, I’m going to try and stay away from grief and sadness. I find that I miss my Dad. Happy memories are sustaining me through this time of transition without him. We are all dealing with such an upheaval of systems in our country. I don’t wish to dwell on any of that either. But, once in a while, it might creep in.

Thanks for hosting, Matt!
As a postscript, I’d like to invite you to read my latest boosted article on Medium.com this week. It is, again, on the conservation of natural resources, aiming at environmental education. I provided the friend link so even if you are not a Medium.com member, you can read the entire piece for free. Thank you in advance. If the friend link does not give you the entire article, please let me know in the comments, and I will send it to you directly.
