Backing Up Over My Day

Late this afternoon, as I sat on our couch drinking a mug of hot tea, I said to my husband, “I have not blogged today and I don’t know why.”

But, actually, as I sat there a little longer I thought to myself, “Well, that’s not true, you know why.”

Firstly, I have a headache right now.  I have taken ibuprofen and am having some caffeinated tea. It should take care of it if I am not coming down with the resident head cold that has plagued our house for over a week.

Before the headache, I went to the grocery store to grab a few items we need. Milk, parmesan cheese, yogurt, and bread. It’s pouring rain and has been all day. If it were ten degrees colder, we’d be buried under mounds of snow right now.

Before the grocery store, I was contacting people about serving as my professional references for a job opportunity that I’ve been mulling over for the last two weeks. Prior to sending those messages, I was updating my curriculum vita (resume). I have completed a new degree and needed to add it to my accomplishments in addition to the two speaking engagements I had this fall.  While I was at it, I decided that the layout of my resume needed cleaning up. This mostly involved changing the spacing and indents that made the information seem crowded. It looks better. I think it was time well spent.

We ate lunch at noon and continued a previously started conversation about this job prospect. My husband is recently retired and I was not sure how he’d feel about me seeking employment. But, I, on the other hand, just finished graduate school and am anxious to apply the knowledge I have from my new degrees and two decades of experience! He understands because the job description fits me so well.

Before lunch, I organized my finished jewelry creations that have been displayed all over a counter in the lower level of our house for over a month. Twice in the last twenty-four hours I inventoried my entire stock looking for a piece I sold that I cannot seem to find. Seriously? I am better organized that this! (Or, so I thought).

Prior to labelling the jewelry storage containers with the items found in each box, I messaged the customer whose purchase I cannot seem to find. I gave her options and some very heartfelt apologies. (I’m still waiting to hear back.)  I also messaged FedEx about my missing sewing machine claim that I placed on the 18th of December. (Still no word.)

This backs us up all the way to the mid-morning of my day, when I have my usual cup of coffee (or two) around 10 a.m.. Prior to that, we did some general clean up in the house, with husband doing the bulk of that, vacuuming the carpets and mopping the kitchen floor. I took care of laundry chores.

I woke refreshed this morning and my day has been productive. Even though it is late for a blog post, at least I know what has kept me busy!
