This is my contribution to the Lens-Artist Challenge for this week. In this challenge we are encouraged to pick a place we’ve travelled to that was memorable. For me, it was a trip to a place in The Netherlands that captured my heart. It was full of history, practicality, and beauty. It was special because I was on my first trip to Europe and was with my oldest son. I hope you enjoy the place I picked!
This is a photo of the Windmills at Stompwijk, just outside of The Hague in the Netherlands. I visited there in September of 2016 with my son, who was presenting at an international Computational Biology Conference. We took a short bus ride to Leidschendam, and then walked the rest of the way to see these three windmills that were originally built-in 1672. They were taken out of service in 1951 but still serve as residences for Dutch families. On the day of our visit, we were alone on the gravel drive, and free to gaze at these incredible structures. It was an adventure I will always remember!
