Lately, I’ve been giving some thought as to which United States National Parks I’d like to visit next. This past year we traveled to:
Arches National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
Saguaro National Park
Petrified Forest National Park
and Haleakala National Park.
And, that’s not all. In 2018, I visited Joshua Tree National Park and in 2020 my husband and I visited White Sands National Park. We’ve already talked about returning to Arches, Saguaro, and Grand Canyon. The trip to Haleakala this past January constituted our third visit there. But, I feel like we need to explore some others before we return to others on the list. We’ve considered Acadia National Park in Maine and Voyageurs National park In Minnesota. But, what might be our next adventure might depend on where and when we travel to see family.
We need to visit my parents again. They are in their mid-80s and had a rough time last fall. We plan to visit them soon. Traveling the Interstate 90 makes a trip from Wisconsin to New York efficient but not very exciting. Veering off the interstate in Indiana might be a distraction if we can plan to visit Indiana Dunes National Park on the shore of Lake Michigan.
On the other hand, we might be able to visit some of the National Parks in California later this year. Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park both would be high on my list, as would Redwood National Park. California has more national parks than any other state with a total of five.
Where we go next will, partially, depend on weather conditions when we have the ability to travel. Parks, given their preservation of nature, are not always accessible, especially in mountainous regions. And, we already had the experience of canceling a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, including a return stay at the YMCA of the Rockies, due to wildfire. Safety is definitely a consideration when venturing into our country’s most remote areas.
I’ll use this time to do some reading, as I always do before we take a trip. The information helps me to decide when and where I’d like to go. We haven’t been disappointed yet, so I will look forward to our next national park adventure.
Where would you suggest?
