The Ferris Wheel
Come to find out, there are many quotes about Ferris wheels and life, but none that I can find with the words I wrote as my title this week. If you’ve read my posts for the last couple of weeks, you’ll know that I’ve been up and down about my hobbies, friendships, and more.
Now, after this week, I feel like I’m on the upswing again! Life is a mystery, isn’t it?
In the last month, I’ve gone from thinking I’ll give up my jewelry-making hobby, to having a new life instilled through support at the venues where I sell on consignment, family, and rethinking my niche. I’m staying at both places and will concentrate on making nature-related jewelry, which fits me perfectly! Yay!
There have been other things going on, too.
With your encouragement, I’ve continued to work on my picture book. Thank you!
And, there’s always family things to think about and people to whom to lend support.
Our eldest son’s cat died – unexpectedly. This makes us all sad. He was a good kitty. We are going to see him soon, as he lives in Colorado, and we are making our way there tomorrow. He’s been helping with a Frog research project, collecting data, in his free time.
Our middle son’s decorative lamp business got support from a marketing team that reached out to him! The details of this have yet to be worked out, but as he said, it was nice to be contacted. His lamps are one of a kind.
And our youngest son and his fiancée just closed on their new home yesterday! We will get to see the house tonight – a mid-century modern abode that sounds just perfect for them!
I’ve been reflecting, too, on how friends are important. And, how I need to make some changes there. This will take time, I know. I wrote a Medium article about it, which you can view here. It generated some interesting comments.
I also found some new volunteer avenues to explore – the library and a new citizen science venture – still butterflies – but not monarchs. There’ll be more to come on that. The training is when we get back from our trip. And, surprisingly, my husband found a local place in the paper, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Extension Office (of which I am very familiar, having been a certified Master Gardener Volunteer for over 15 years but no longer active), where I might be able to do some community education. Again, finding out more about that will have to wait until we are home.
Tomorrow, we leave for a two-week trip out west. I’ll be rounding up as we go, so be patient, I’ll get to commenting on everyone’s post! Thanks.

The ferris wheel is certainly a great metaphor for the ups and downs of life (enjoyed the poem!). You certainly have a lot on your plate with family events and your own projects. Sorry to hear about your son’s cat. Enjoy your trip out west, safe travels to you! Thanks for hosting this week!

Carol, my immediate response is to think of the ferris wheel reference as a very apt metaphor for life’s every moving cycle. As the saying goes- ‘Nothing happens, nothing happens and then everything happens.’ So often these events come in quick succession and we find ourselves unsettled for a time before emerging and once more becalmed- for a while at least. Enjoy you upcoming trip, Carol. Looking forward to your reportage.

I enjoyed the comparison of a ferris wheel to life. So many ups and downs. But the nice thing is when you are down, you know an “up” is coming 🙂 Have a good vacation.
