Good day, Poetry Friday Friends.
I’ll try to catch you up but also keep things brief this week.
Volunteering:
I started my new volunteer role at the local elementary school and am enjoying it thoroughly. So far, I’ve been assigned to review math lessons with some children who are struggling. I love the teacher and the control she already has. I think we will work well together.
Bridal Shower:
Our son’s fiancée’s bridal shower was two weekends ago. I traveled to get there, back to LaCrosse, WI, the area where we used to live. It was both fun and exhausting. The countdown is on…for their wedding is the last Saturday of this month. Afterwards, we took a nice ride on a pontoon boat on the Mississippi River.
Writing:
I’m still writing on Medium several days a week. Last month, I did better than I have since April monetarily. And I’m on track to do that again this month. I’ll share a few of my articles at the end of today’s post. My most recent piece is a memoir on remembering what happened on 9/11.
Poetry:
I’ve written several haikus and have jotted down or saved publications accepting submissions. I guess I’m willing to try again, but since this month is already busy with personal obligations, I’m not sure any will be turned in. I’m trying to share my poetry less since most pubs don’t like anything that has been published before (even on a blog). However, there are exceptions.

Unfortunately, I updated my MS Office and cannot get MS 365 to work on my MacBook Air. Apparently, this is a common problem, so I’ve lost some other bird poems from this week. I’ll be figuring it all out this week.
Congratulations to all whose “silly” poems were accepted for publication. I saw several names I knew.
Travel:
On Labor Day, we went to the Green Bay Botanical Gardens. I took my new camera. It is a gorgeous space. There aren’t any conservatories, but the gardens were lush and well planned. There were also many pieces of garden sculpture to inspire. It was a great visit but a long drive.
As summer winds down, many of you are back in school. My husband and I continue to enjoy the freedom of retirement but are as busy as ever. I wish all of you a great year!
We leave for the Netherlands and Belgium on another Viking River Cruise the Monday after the wedding. October will be busy.
Drawing/Painting/Jewelry:
I’ve been making some sketches to participate in Inktober. I got behind, but that’s okay. The challenge seems pretty loose. I have seven sketches to ink next month.
My jewelry making has been re-inspired since leaving Etsy. My sister had me make a gemstone/sterling set for her to wear at the wedding later this month. And, I came up with a new leather bracelet-button design, too. Both my consignment spots did well in September. So if you want to see what I’m making, you can follow me on Instagram at carollabuz.
